University Health is constructing two new community hospitals. The community hospital contracts have aspirational goals of 75% local vendor participation and a 40% Small, Minority, Women and Veteran Business Enterprise (SMWVBE).

Overview & Schedule

The University Health Retama Community Hospital and the University Health Palo Alto Community Hospitals are 160-bed hospitals with approximately 480,000 square feet. In addition to the hospitals, medical office buildings will also be constructed at roughly 105,000 square feet. Each building will be up to five stories, while the site includes parking for more than 2,500 vehicles.

Preconstruction interaction with the design is currently underway. This will continue through March 2024. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2024 and will follow a 30-month schedule. Both hospitals will include:

  • Emergency operating rooms
  • Pre-op
  • PACU
  • Sterile processing
  • Clinical lab
  • Shell space
  • Pharmacy
  • LDRP
  • NICU
  • ICU
  • Medical surgery rooms
