Facial Nerve Therapy

Causes of Facial Nerve Damage

You may need facial nerve rehabilitation after the nerves in your face were damaged.

This could be caused by:

  • Bell’s palsy
  • Congenital facial paralysis
  • Lyme disease
  • Ramsay Hunt disease
  • Skull fractures
  • Stroke
  • Trauma

Why You May Need Rehabilitation

When you cannot control the nerves in your face, it can have negative impacts on your ability to communicate. This can cause feelings of isolation, loneliness and diminished self-worth.

What to Expect

When you meet with your physical therapist in a one-on-one session, you can expect to practice:

  • Closing the affected eye and managing eye irritation
  • Controlling muscle movements in your face
  • Eating, drinking and speaking
  • Managing dry mouth
  • Reducing tightness in your face

Our goal is to get you comfortable again in social environments and functioning as well as possible.
