Purpose

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Description

The University Health PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program provides a challenging, well-rounded training environment in a variety of critical care areas, including but not limited to surgical/trauma ICU, neuroscience ICU, medicine ICU, emergency medicine, and cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery.  Residents will have opportunities to care for adult and pediatric patients, teach and precept pharmacy students and respond to code blue alerts throughout the hospital.  In addition, residents will demonstrate leadership and practice management skills and complete a critical care research project. Graduates of the program are prepared to take clinical pharmacy specialist and faculty positions related to critical care.
