What to Expect

When you need a quick and accurate orthopedic diagnosis, you’ll have a comprehensive exam to assess your physical condition.

Your orthopedic exam includes:

  • Discussion about your goals for treatment and recovery
  • In-depth health history
  • Review of your daily functions, activities and sleeping habits

Orthopedic Tests & Imaging

Your orthopedic specialist may recommend additional tests to get a better picture of your condition. Most diagnostic imaging procedures are noninvasive and provide high-resolution images of bones, joints, muscles and tendons.

Orthopedic diagnostic tests include:

  • Bone density scan
  • Computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Ultrasound
  • X-ray

Your orthopedic provider will also communicate with your primary care provider about your health history, diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

Your test results are quickly interpreted and integrated with your electronic medical record. University Health providers have real-time access to your test results as needed, so care is coordinated as efficiently as possible.
