Accommodating Your Needs

Our patients come first. During your stay at one of our hospitals, we work as a team to ensure your experience meets your every need, from made-to-order meals to spiritual care. If you have special requests during your stay with us, please talk to your nurse.

Patient Room Service

University Hospital and Women's & Children's Hospital patients can order meals through our At Your Request – Room Service dining program anytime the cafeteria is open. Our staff will make sure each request fits within the prescribed dietary guidelines and allergy alerts for every patient. Meals are freshly prepared on-site by skilled chefs, certified by the American Culinary Federation, and delivered to your room within 45 minutes.

Hospital Amenities

As a patient admitted to our care at University Hospital or the Women's & Children's Hospital, your family is welcome and encouraged to stay with you as part of your healing team. Our rooms are designed for your comfort and care. Your stay includes:

  • Private patient rooms, with private bathrooms
  • Room service to order what you want to eat (within doctor’s orders), when you are hungry
  • Television in each room to enjoy TV shows, watch a movie, relaxation videos and health education videos
  • A comfortable sleeper sofa for a family member to spend the night
  • Open seating areas where family and friends can gather and visit
  • Free Wi-Fi

The Sky Tower at University Hospital also features two healing gardens for relaxation and a breath of fresh air.

Other Amenities

For your convenience, ATM machines are located in the main lobby of the Sky Tower and in the back of the cafeteria dining area. Both are available 24 hours a day.

Our 24/7 gift shop is located in University Hospital, Sky Tower, Level 1 of the main lobby. Whether looking for a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member staying with us or something to do to pass the time, you’ll find what you need. We carry:

  • Greeting cards
  • Daily edition of San Antonio Express News 
  • Magazines
  • Fresh flowers
  • Specialty gifts
  • Grab and go snacks

Coffee & Snacks

Our Gift Shop Café offers continental style food, snacks and comforting hot beverages, including:

Located in the main corridor on the first floor, across from the Admissions Office, the Peveto Center for Pastoral Care offers spiritual services for you and your family. We welcome patients, friends and family of any denomination. Attend one of our services or reflect quietly in a supportive environment.

University Hospital patients can order meals through the At Your Request – Room Service dining program anytime the cafeteria is open. Our staff will make sure each request fits your prescribed dietary guidelines and keeps in mind any allergy alerts. A menu is available in your room.

Our skilled chefs, certified by the American Culinary Federation, prepare all meals and deliver to your room within 45 minutes. Please note doctor’s dietary and nutrition orders are taken into consideration with each request.

University Hospital volunteers deliver mail and flowers each day. Please check with your nurse about receiving flowers and gifts in your room.

In order to ensure gifts are delivered directly to you, family and friends should give the florist or vendor your:

  • Full name
  • Room number
  • Room phone number

Hospital security and police personnel are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week for your safety and security. In addition, University Health employees are required to wear a name badge at all times to identify themselves.

Should you have any problems during your stay requiring security assistance, please call 210-358-2465.

Telephones are located in all general patient care rooms at University Hospital.

  • To make a local call, dial “9,” then the seven-digit telephone number.
  • To place a long-distance call, dial “0” for an operator.
  • To call another individual within the hospital, dial “8” and the last four digits of the person’s hospital telephone number.

As restful periods of sleep are an important part of the healing process, we want to ensure you get plenty of rest during your hospital stay.

While we encourage patient families to stay, incoming calls are not permitted to a patient’s room between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. All incoming calls during those hours are routed to the hospital operator.

Please check with your nurse about visiting hours and authorized waiting areas for your particular floor to inform your visitors and guests.
