A few simple skills can save a life

University Health launches monthly Stop the Bleed classes to teach people from all walks of life how to keep a badly injured person alive until help can arrive

BACKGROUND: University Health wants everyone to learn a few simple skills that can keep a badly bleeding person alive until a first responder can arrive. A seriously injured person — from a car wreck, an on-the-job injury or even a mass casualty event — can bleed to death in five minutes. A bystander will always be the first on the scene, and that person’s fast actions could mean the difference between life and death.

Free Stop the Bleed courses, taught by our trauma and injury prevention experts, will be offered to the public each month at University Hospital. At the end of this 90-minute class, attendees will know the simple skills they can use in an emergency to keep someone alive.

Members of the news media are welcome to attend and/or cover this class.
