A revolution in heart care: saving lives and improving recovery
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, but advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment are transforming outcomes for patients. From more effective medications to less invasive procedures and earlier detection, innovations in cardiovascular care are helping people live longer, healthier lives.
As part of our KSAT Community partnership, University Health explores how the field of cardiology has evolved over the past 15 years, leading to safer procedures, fewer complications and improved recovery times. The story highlights advances in medications, imaging technology and minimally invasive interventions that are changing the way heart disease is treated and managed.
“The changes have reduced complications, extended life and lowered the risk of recurrent events like heart attacks and strokes,” said Dr. Anand Prasad, interventional cardiologist and director of the University Health Cardiovascular Center.
