I am Chief of the Janey and Dolph Briscoe Division of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine (tenure) in the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas San Antonio.

Formerly, I was the Medical Director of the Center for Heart Failure in the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute of Northwestern Medicine and Chief of the Section of Heart Failure and Transplant in the Division of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at Northwestern Medicine.

I am a Georgia native and graduated from the Emory University School of Medicine. I completed internal medicine training, including a chief residency, at New York University/Bellevue Medical Center. I then completed a general cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago and one year of advanced heart failure/transplant training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. I am board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.

Research Interests:

My research interests include the non-invasive assessment of heart failure and cardiac transplant patients, valvular heart disease in heart failure patients and the development of novel therapeutic approaches for advanced heart failure patients.

I am a member of the Heart Failure Society of America, the International Society of Heart & Lung Transplantation, and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. I have received numerous awards for teaching medical students, residents and fellows.

In addition to my administrative and academic roles, I maintain an active clinical practice in cardiomyopathies, advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. My passion is to improve the lives of people living with heart failure.
