Trauma survivors reunite with the people who saved their lives

On Wednesday, trauma survivors who came through our doors with life-threatening injuries are returning to have lunch and celebrate their restored health with a few of the people who helped save them. Many of these patients have little memory of their initial visit, so it can be eye-opening to come back to the hospital under a much more pleasant circumstance. It’s also good medicine for the trauma team – who care for crucially injured patients every day - to see some of their former patients doing well and living full and happy lives.

May is trauma awareness month, and University Hospital’s Level I trauma center is reaching out with partners and patients to educate our community about the importance of a comprehensive regional trauma system, and help people learn how to reduce their odds of being injured and ending up in a trauma center.
