University Health System Selected One of 2015 Most Wired
Health System makes prestigious technology list for the seventh time
University Health System has again been named one of the nation’s Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems. It is the seventh time the Health System has been included on the list, which is based on the Most Wired Survey by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
The survey is designed to measure the level of IT adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems, and is a useful tool for hospital and health system leadership to map their IT strategic plans.
“Our mission is to provide excellent care to our patients, and we’ve found that smart investments in technology help us focus quickly on the individual needs of those patients, making their care safer, more effective and more efficient,” said George B. Hernández Jr., president and CEO of University Health System. “To the extent that we’ve succeed in that goal, we’re honored to have been included on the Most Wired list year after year.”
Among the recent improvements in technology, University Health System acquired the PCCI Pieces All-Causes Readmission Reduction software that analyzes data to rapidly identify those at high risk of complications, so that additional services can be provided to keep them healthy and out of the hospital.
The Health System also upgraded its MyUHS app to allow patients to access their health information and communicate with providers, make appointments and pay bills using their mobile devices. Of this year’s Most Wired hospitals, 89 percent provide access to their electronic patient portal via a mobile app, up from just 58 percent last year.

Health Care’s Most Wired Survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives. Respondents completed 741 surveys, representing 2,213 hospitals, or roughly 39 percent of all U.S. hospitals.
