New Oakwell Clinic brings specialty care to northeast Bexar County

The North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce joined University Health today in welcoming the public to its newest clinic, Oakwell Specialties, located at 3338 Oakwell Court.

The Northeast Side clinic provides expertise for the diagnosis and treatment of three growing adult health care needs: sleep problems, arthritis and lung conditions.

The clinic is another link in University Health’s targeted expansion that seeks to provide the area’s growing population with targeted services closer to where they live.

“Our aim is to provide the level of care people need in convenient locations, so our patients do not have to drive all the way to the South Texas Medical Center to see a specialist,” said George Hernández, Jr., president & CEO for University Health.

“We know that patients who follow up with their doctors and take an active role in managing their health are less likely to need to go the hospital,” he said.

Adult sleep medicine addresses conditions that include insomnia, snoring, sleepwalking and sleep apnea. Arthritis treatment can be helpful for conditions that include gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. Cystic fibrosis, allergies and asthma are among the illnesses that can inhibit lung function. Information on making an appointment and additional conditions that may benefit from this specialized care are available on the Oakwell Specialties webpage.

The opening of Oakwell Specialties follows University Heath’s recent South Side groundbreakings for its state-of-the-art Palo Alto Hospital and a nearby multi-specialty health care center and headquarters for the University Health Institute for Public Health. Both facilities will be located on a 68-acre campus near Texas A&M. In February, University Health will break ground on another community hospital. University Health Retama will be located at the corner of Lookout Road and Retama Parkway along the I-35 corridor in Selma. Retama, like Palo Alto, will open by 2027 with 166 inpatient beds and acute care services that include a 24/7 Emergency Department, labor and delivery unit, NICU, inpatient units, operating rooms, radiology and lab services.
