100,000 vaccine shots and counting

This afternoon, a University Health pharmacy team will be drawing up the 100,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This marks a milestone in a dizzying logistical operation of mass vaccine delivery that began almost two months ago. The operation involves intense logistical challenges handling delicate vaccines at multiple sites, and to date University Health has not lost one single dose.
On Dec. 17, University Health received its first shipment of vaccine. On Dec. 18, we began vaccinating thousands of our frontline health care staff at University Hospital. On Dec. 21, we began vaccinating thousands of first responders and frontline workers from the community at the downtown Robert B. Green campus, and that operation continues. Since Jan. 4, we have been providing COVID-19 vaccines to the Phase 1B public at Wonderland Mall as fast as we can get shipments from the state, starting at an average of 1,500 doses a day and ramping up to more than 4,300 per day.
Senior Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer Elliott Mandell has overseen the receipt, thawing, drawing and administering of these vaccines and will be on site to describe and answer questions about the process.
