COVID-19 Vaccine Information

University Health pharmacies offer the new Pfizer-BioNTech Bivalent booster for individuals 12 years of age and older. No appointment necessary.

COVID-19 Vaccinations and Boosters

We are currently offering:

An adult family member or guardian must accompany children in order to provide written consent for the vaccination. Proof of age is not required. We encourage you to learn more about what to bring and what to expect after your vaccination.

Persons coming to receive a booster shot must bring their vaccine card or log on to their MyChart account to show which vaccine they have already received and when they were vaccinated. To ensure safety, booster doses will not be offered earlier than the time intervals authorized by the FDA and recommended by the CDC.

The CDC recommends waiting at least 2 months after a previous COVID-19 booster or 3 months for those who recently had a COVID-19 infection before receiving the new bivalent booster.

Data suggest that extending the interval, by waiting 4-6 months after a previous booster or infection, may produce a more robust and longer lasting immune response to the bivalent booster.

Evidence of increases in both neutralizing antibodies and memory B cells, along with amplified T cell responses, have been demonstrated in immunologic studies with a longer time period between doses.

Getting Ready for Your Appointment

Please arrive no more than 15 minutes early for your appointment. Be sure to bring a photo ID and a mask or face-covering.

At the time of vaccination, you will receive a card with information about the vaccine you received. This information is recorded in the state immunization registry.

The Pfizer vaccine series for this age group is a three-dose series, with the second dose administered three weeks after the first, and the third dose eight weeks after the second. Follow-up doses will be scheduled at the visits. As with other COVID-19 vaccines, children will be observed for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine.

What to Expect After Your Vaccination

Side effects of a COVID-19 vaccination can be fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and pain or swelling in the arm where you got your shot. These are normal signs that your body is building protection. Consult with your doctor about taking any over-the-counter pain medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen to help with these symptoms or if you are still experiencing side effects after a few days.
