Flu Season Is Back
Getting an annual flu shot is a good idea for almost everyone. As we enter respiratory virus season, it's important to protect yourself not only from the flu, but also from illnesses such as RSV and COVID-19. In addition, norovirus and other seasonal viruses can contribute to increased illness during this time of year.
Learn more about the differences between flu, COVID-19, RSV and norovirus symptoms and what steps you can take to stay healthy.
Getting COVID-19 and the Flu at the Same Time
It is possible to be infected with COVID-19 and the flu at the same time, so we should do everything we can to reduce our risk of getting sick.
Influenza and COVID-19 are both serious illnesses, and they share a number of common symptoms, including:
- Fever
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Chills
- Body aches
Getting vaccinated helps protect not only you, but also those around you by supporting herd immunity, especially for people who are more vulnerable to severe illness.
If you're unsure whether you should receive the latest COVID-19 vaccine, talk with your primary care provider about what's right for you.
COVID-19 vaccines are also available through University Health pharmacies, making it easy to stay up to date on recommended immunizations.
