Pediatric Infectious Diseases

Nationally Recognized Infectious Disease Care

The board-certified pediatric infectious disease specialists at University Health can diagnose and treat even the most complex childhood illnesses. We treat children on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Infectious Diseases We Treat

We treat a wide array of infectious diseases including:

Testing and Diagnosis

Usually patients come to our clinic because their pediatrician cannot determine the cause of infection. Our pediatric infectious disease doctors are like detectives. They will gather all of the necessary clues to find the origin of your child’s disease, and prescribe an effective treatment.

During your first visit to our clinic, the doctor will ask you a number of questions about your child's health. This helps us determine where the infection came from and how we can treat it.

We will also perform a physical exam of your child and may order some lab (blood) tests. If we suspect your child has tuberculosis, we will perform a TB test.

Telemedicine Visits Available

If you prefer, we can schedule a telemedicine visit so you don’t have to come to the hospital for care.

Pediatric Infectious Disease Treatments

Your child’s treatment plan will depend on their diagnosis. Some of the most common treatments we recommend are:

  • Antibiotics
  • TB management
  • Musculoskeletal infection management
  • Chronic infection management
  • Antibiotic management of multidrug-resistant infections

We also work with the pediatric immunology department to provide infusions for immunologic conditions.

International Travel Clinic

Our Infectious Disease Department oversees a travel medicine clinic to help international travelers prepare for their journeys, including immunizations and malaria prevention.

The Pediatric Infectious Disease specialists also see children and families who will be traveling, as well as returned travelers with illnesses like malaria, dengue fever and other tropical diseases.
