Taking time to honor the fallen
BACKGROUND: University Health’s connection with the military, including our Level I trauma partnership, runs deep and wide, and many service members go on to provide care at our facilities.
Tomorrow, as we honor the men and women who died serving their country, our keynote speaker exemplifies this enduring connection. This event is coordinated through our volunteer Veterans Committee and is a longstanding tradition for our organization.
From commanding the Department of Defense’s sole Level I trauma center to championing health care equity in San Antonio, Brigadier General (Ret.) Dr. Shan K. Bagby has never stopped serving.
As Chair of University Health Foundation's Board of Directors, Dr. Bagby embodies University Health's tradition of clinical excellence. He served as Commanding General of Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), where he oversaw a $1.2 billion operation that served military families and the San Antonio community. His tenure at BAMC fostered a deep connection to San Antonio, and like many veterans, he and his family have settled here.
As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, University Health will honor fallen U.S. military personnel in a special observance in the Foundation Room at the Robert B. Green Campus downtown with Dr. Bagby as our keynote speaker.
