Santa skips the reindeer, arrives on a chopper

Teddy Bears for Tykes program encourages blood donation, provides bears to sick kids

BACKGROUND: The reindeer are resting up this week, so Santa will arrive at University Hospital on an AirLIFE helicopter Tuesday afternoon. And the big, red bag of teddy bears he’ll be carrying are courtesy of blood donors at University Health’s blood bank. Each time someone donated blood or blood products at the hospital in November and December, they did so knowing another bear would be added to the bag to go to a sick child in the hospital. The event is part of DonorLogix 5th annual Teddy Bears for Tykes program.

WHO: Santa Claus, pediatric patients at University Hospital, and lots and lots of bears.

WHAT: Video from atop University Hospital’s rooftop helipad of Santa landing in an AirLIFE hospital. Dozens of bears will be distributed to young patients.

WHEN: Tuesday, Dec. 22. Arrive in hospital lobby at 9:45 a.m. for an escort to the helipad at University Hospital. Santa is expected to land at 10 a.m.

WHERE: University Hospital, 4502 Medical Drive.
