Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis comes to University Hospital
Descendent of University Health System co-founder to visit and inspire young patients, support United Way campaign
BACKGROUND: It’s fitting that Olympic swimming champion Josh Davis is speaking at a University Hospital leadership reception for the United Way today, since his great-grandfather, James R. Davis, was the Bexar County judge who helped found University Health System 100 years ago.
But first, at 2 p.m., he will meet with the leaders of tomorrow – the young patients on the hospital’s pediatric floor.
Davis won three gold medals at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and two silver medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Now a swim trainer and motivational speaker, Davis often works with young people. Beyond athletic training, he works to inspire them to be their best selves in every way.
His connection to University Health System is four generations deep. Judge Davis and Bexar County commissioners helped establish the Robert B. Green Memorial Hospital in 1917, along with the mayor and city commissioners (known today as city council). This evening, Josh Davis will speak at the 2017 Go for the Gold United Way Campaign Leadership Event.
