$25,000 Grant Will Support Diabetes Outreach and Education

The John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to University Health System to support its Adelante! program – a community-focused diabetes outreach program.

Adelante! brings easier access to healthcare through screening for diabetes to promote early diagnosis and identifying patients at risk for developing diabetes. The program also will provide education on how to prevent the disease through a healthy diet and exercise, encouraging families to create a healthy lifestyle now and for the future.

Diabetes outreach and education will focus on most of Bexar County and South Central Texas, with a priority placed on the southwestern and southeastern region of the county, where University Health System has two school-based outreach clinics. The clinics serve families in the Harlandale and Southwest independent school districts.
