Register today to get your flu shot at no cost
University Health is partnering with Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and Bexar County commissioners to offer flu shots at no cost during drive-thru events at four locations across the city. Adults and children ages 6 months and older can get a flu shot without leaving their vehicle!
Last flu season was rough. Hospitals across the country dealt with high outpatient visits and above average hospitalizations. Positivity rates from University Health soared to over 67% for one or more respiratory viruses in January, including nearly 870 positive flu cases in one week alone.
“Respiratory virus season typically runs from the fall through the spring, but we have already seen a late summer surge of COVID-19, and I expect a rise in flu and RSV cases to follow. So now is the time to think about protecting yourself and your loved ones. Wash your hands often, cover your cough, stay home if you are sick, see your doctor if needed, and get vaccines early, including a flu shot, for the best protection,” said Dr. Leo Lopez, chief community and population health officer for University Health.
Adults older than 60, children and the immunocompromised are at higher risk for serious complications from the flu virus. When you get vaccinated, you protect vulnerable people around you.
There is no cost for the flu shot at these events, but advance registration is required.
Individuals should visit the University Health website to register each person receiving a flu shot at universityhealth.com/flu.
