Eastridge Elected TETAF Vice Chairman

Brian Eastridge, M.D., trauma medical director and trauma/acute-care surgeon at University Hospital in San Antonio, has been elected vice chairman of the Texas EMS, Trauma & Acute Care Foundation Board. He took office Jan. 1 for a two-year term.

TETAF is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2006 by emergency medical services, trauma and acute-care professionals who wanted to enhance the state’s EMS/trauma/acute-care system statewide. TETAF creates a forum to bring all stakeholders together to discuss issues, ranging from legislative policy and regulatory requirements to better emergency care for specific populations, such as geriatric or pediatric patients. TETAF is a source of timely, relevant information for the trauma/EMS/ambulance communities, and is an advocate, educating lawmakers and regulators at both the state and federal levels about trauma/EMS/ambulance issues. TETAF also provides cutting-edge continuing education on emergency and disaster topics.

“TETAF is fortunate to have the knowledge and leadership of Dr. Eastridge on its board,” said Dinah Welsh, TETAF chief executive officer. “He is an internationally recognized expert in trauma system development.”

A colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Medical Corps, Dr. Eastridge was the developer and a past director of the Joint Trauma System, with multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a former trauma medical director at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston.

He is an educator and directs Advanced Trauma Life Support and Advance Trauma Operative Management courses, as well as teaches courses for rural trauma team development. He has been a TETAF-approved Level III and Level IV Designated Trauma Facility physician surveyor for seven years.

A member of the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council’s Trauma Systems Committee, Dr. Eastridge is an active member of the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council, which oversees Trauma Service Area P which encompasses Bexar and 21 surrounding counties.
