Connecting our future to the past: Children at University Hospital learn ancient art of weaving from a Tricentennial artist

Doerte Weber, a San Antonio fiber artist, weaver and Tricentennial partner, used colorful plastic newspaper sleeves to create the bright and touchable installation called 30 Blooming Leaves of Mexico that currently hangs in the lobby of University Hospital. Weber describes the materials that helped deliver news as the connection to the world. They were given to her by many different people, and so connect the piece to the people of the city. Weber will set up a loom in front of the Blooming Leaves and demonstrate to pediatric patients the ancient art of weaving, giving them a chance to work the loom themselves.
