Better Preparing Nurses for the Real World
University Health System’s Nurse Residency Program graduates its second class of RNs
BACKGROUND: Forty registered nurses will be walking across the stage after completing the Nurse Residency Program at University Health System. The second graduating class of nurse residents has dedicated an entire year to the program after earning their Bachelor of Science in nursing degrees. Each nurse resident has been guided and mentored by experienced nursing staff.
The 2-year-old program, in partnership with the UT Health Science Center School of Nursing, gives nurses a mix of classroom and hands-on experience designed to ease the transition from nursing student to skilled registered nurse, improving patient care in the process.
University Health System is the only San Antonio healthcare organization with an American Association of Colleges of Nursing Nurse Residency Program, and the first and only health organization in San Antonio to earn Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
