University Health System is Recognized as One of the Best Employee Learning and Development Organizations Worldwide
Awards Recognize Organizational Commitment to World-Class Employee Learning
University Health System is ranked 4th in the world for workforce learning, according to the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD), and is one of just 31 organizations worldwide to receive a 2010 ASTD BEST Award.
The BEST Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate enterprise-wide success as a result of employee learning and development. According to ASTD, these companies make strong investments in learning, create safe and engaging learning environments, and use new and innovative technologies to enhance employee education.
“This recognition is about innovation and commitment across all levels of our organization,” said University Health System President/CEO George B. Hernández, Jr. “Our BEST Award recognizes every staff member who took the initiative and the time to participate in learning opportunities.”
University Health System was recognized for its Institute for Leaders, a multi-tiered leadership development program to develop current supervisors into the health system’s leaders of tomorrow. Institute programs include the Performance Leadership Academy, Management Development Academy, Directors’ Mentoring Program, and Leadership Academy for Physicians. Training initiatives provided by each program develop individuals with valuable communications and leadership skills so they can perform better in their current positions and advance in the organization.

Through an online application, the 2010 BEST Awards received entries from 104 organizations in nine countries. These organizations submitted quantitative and qualitative information to ASTD about their learning and development practices and programs. Their applications were assessed in a rigorous blind review by members of the BEST Awards advisory committee, a group of experts in the learning and development field.
