Our specialty surgeons, along with many other pediatric specialists, are here to help in your child’s hour of need. Our pediatric trauma team provides care for nearly 2,000 children in Bexar County and South Texas every year.
As one of only five Level I pediatric trauma centers in Texas, we serve as a regional resource to young trauma patients. We provide services to care for every aspect of an injury – from initial treatment to reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. Their emotional recovery is as important as their physical recovery.
Trauma Injuries We Treat
We treat infants, children and adolescents with injuries due to falls, car crashes, burns, animal bites and more. After our trauma team stabilizes your child and conducts tests and imaging, we put a treatment plan into motion.
What to Expect
When your child is brought to our trauma resuscitation unit with a life-threatening injury, a pediatric trauma team with expertise in caring for critically injured infants and children will respond immediately and begin caring for your child.
The trauma team will identify your child’s injuries and create a plan on how best to care for him or her. From this point, your child may need to see other specialists for evaluation.
After treatment, your child will be moved to an area of the hospital where we provide critically ill and injured children a low patient-to-nurse ratio. Compassionate, continual care by pediatric specialists and nurses with advanced training is our standard of care.

If your child is facing a life-threatening injury or illness, we have a team of highly skilled trauma surgeons who can respond quickly and efficiently.

Recovery from a Traumatic Injury
Multiple medical professionals, including pediatric therapists, will help your child through their recovery process. Whether your child needs physical therapy, treatment to minimize scarring or psychological support, our team will help coordinate this care.
Your child will also get continued care at our pediatric trauma follow-up clinic.
