Spicy Texas Pecans

Fall is the time of year when our Texas state tree sheds its pecans just in time to harvest and make a spicy treat. Notable health benefits of pecans come from their unsaturated fat and fiber content. Additionally, pecans are high in polyphenols with antioxidant effects.

You will want to grab a handful of these pecans and share with friends!

Spicy Texas Pecans

Preparation time: less than 30 minutes

Number of servings: 16

  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 3 cups of pecan halves
  • 1/4 cup of Splenda
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 2 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cumin
  • 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Melt the butter in a large skillet over high heat
  3. Add pecans and sauté until lightly browned, about 3 minutes
  4. Add Splenda and stir until it caramelizes, about 3-5 minutes
  5. Stir in paprika, cumin and chili power
  6. Add vinegar and cook until all the liquid has evaporated
  7. Spread the pecans on a cookie sheet and bake in oven until crisp, about 3-5 minutes
  8. Take out of oven, lightly sprinkle salt if desired
