Economic stability refers to a person’s ability to afford things such as:
- Quality housing
- Health care
- Medications
- Healthy food
- Transportation
- Costs associated with education
People who can afford the things they need are more likely to live longer than those who can’t. This is because they have better access to health care, healthy food, safe housing, clean water, etc.
People who are unemployed or living in poverty have less access to healthy food, quality housing and health care. Plus, the stress of being unemployed or living in poverty can contribute to some health conditions.

healthyUexpress is the mobile primary care unit from University Health. It provides services including physicals, checkups, immunizations and sick visits.
University Health school-based clinics
School-based clinics provide pediatric primary care services close to your home. These clinics provide:
- Health screenings
- Treatment for common ailments and injuries
- Sports physicals
- Checkups
Connecting Kids to Coverage
Connecting Kids to Coverage enrolls Bexar County children in health care coverage. Children and their families can enroll in Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
CareLink
CareLink is a financial assistance program for Bexar County families who don’t have health insurance and don’t qualify for other coverage. CareLink is not health insurance but makes health care services at University Health more affordable. Learn more on our website or call 210-358-3350.

Ready to Work
Ready to Work is an education and job placement program led by the City of San Antonio. Ready to Work pays for training and education programs for over 28,000 eligible adults.
