Testing & Diagnosing Kidney Conditions

Your treatment starts with an accurate diagnosis. Nephrologists at University Health make it easy to get tested for various kidney conditions.

We will then interpret your test results and develop a treatment plan customized to your needs. We provide all the expertise you need to find the source of your kidney condition.

Kidney Testing We Provide

Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)

During an ABPM, you will wear a device for 24 hours that will measure and record your blood pressure. ABPM can help diagnose hypertension.

Imaging tests

Your doctor may perform imaging tests such as an ultrasound to look at your kidneys. Imaging tests are noninvasive and painless ways of getting a detailed look at abnormalities in your kidneys.

Lab tests

Lab tests might include pre-kidney transplant testing for recipient and donor, and post-kidney transplant testing to monitor kidney function and medication levels.

Ultrasound-guided kidney biopsy

During a kidney biopsy, your doctor will insert a needle into the kidney to take a tissue sample for testing. Your doctor might use an ultrasound to help guide the needle to the precise location. An ultrasound uses a transducer that sends sound waves into your body that bounce off your kidneys, creating an image of your kidneys.
